25 Sep 2nd Milk: From The U.S. To Malawi And Back
Hey there! I am Lacey. Together with my husband Jason and our 6 kiddos (Braxton – 16, Ethan – 14, Gavin – 13, Kreyton – 9, Ruthie – 5, Mia – 3) we make up the Carney Family. A few years ago we did this crazy thing where we sold everything, our home, our business, our possessions and moved from the U.S. to Malawi, Africa to care for orphans. Yes, we are those
crazy awesome missionaries you hear about!
Welcome to the first post of our brand new blog where we will be telling you about life in Malawi and how you can help.
While we lived in Malawi, a scenario kept repeating itself; Mommas were dying or so malnourished they couldn’t feed their babies. It was heartbreaking and we were called to care for these women and their precious children. People were knocking on the door to hearts, they needed our help and we knew we had to answer. When we returned to the U.S. our focus became saving these women and their tiny babies; 2nd Milk was born.
Every baby in the 2nd Milk program has a story. Each is unique yet they are the same; starvation. I actually don’t allow my children to say they are starving to death anymore. (If they do…they could “mouth” my response back…promise)
I will never forget the joy on the faces of grandmas, aunts, and families so incredibly grateful for the gift of hope when it previously would have been totally acceptable to let their baby die. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not that they prefer death, it’s just viewed differently when there isn’t another option like WIC or food stamps, or DHS coming and taking the children. Life is different in Malawi; there are no handouts unless someone with a giving heart and funding from a 1st world country steps in. It feels like a never ending cycle of poverty and loss.
We hope to brake that desperate cycle and help turn things around for these families. This is not a 2 year or even a 5 year plan. This is long term and exhaustive. This is a plan for posterity. Our prayer is that in the generations to come, Jesus will use His people, including those partnered with 2nd Milk, to bring light and the hope of a better life to the families of Malawi.
What do you do when you are supposed to be the hands and feet of Jesus and people are knocking? You seek out God’s will for your life and, hopefully, you answer the door! Partner with us and sponsor one of these sweet babies or you can give a one time donation in any amount you are able. #GiveLife
